Bête Noire [Artist's Statement]
This was placed on the gallery wall beside my project.
- The childhood domain is intrinsically bombarded with whimsical imagery and make-believe scenarios - made real by the facility of juvenile imagination. Glamor and excitement of this fictional realm unfortunately decays with age and the takeover of concerns for "realistic" ventures. Tragically, the death of creative spirit is the result of the monotony and mundane attitude ubiquitously commanding the real world. To resurrect a feeling of fancy for an unrelieved audience, these shadowbox dioramas attempt to encapsulate traditionally two-dimensional fictional themes and preserve them in the three-dimensional space more synonymous with reality than a flat image on a storybook page.
